The Antonino Museum

Imagine walking into the caves at Lascaux many thousands of years ago, imagine looking up through the flickering yellow of a tallow torch and seeing the arched and meaty back of an auroch or antelope. Hunger is one of humanity’s greatest assets, has driven the most extraordinary creations and invested so many emotions that calculating its value is meaningless. It’s like that other human imperative of covet, conquer, and copulate. Childlessness is suicide. Existence proceeds from and produces desire. And the raucous genes of savage man get wrapped in robes of civilization. We speak of peckishness and gastronomy, say meeting of the minds and affinity, but it’s still food and fucking.
